Moments after former Vice President Joe Biden delivered a statement urging his supporters to be patient while awaiting the results, President Trump announced on Twitter that he would be making a “statement” from the White House.
“We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election,” the president tweeted, without offering evidence to support his claim.
“We will never let them do it,” he added. “Votes cannot be cast after the Polls are closed!”
Votes are still being counted in several key states, but they were cast before the polls closed — in some cases, many days earlier.
Twitter promptly flagged the tweet as “disputed” or “possibly misleading,” part of the social media network’s efforts to stop the spread of misinformation about the election.

At this stage in the race, according to AP counts, Trump has 213 electoral votes while Biden has 236. Trump would need 270 electoral votes to win.
