An election tribunal in Osun State on Friday affirmed the victory of the All Progressives Congress’ candidate Governor Rauf Aregbesola in the August 2014 governorship election.
Aregbesola was declared winner of the August 9 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The governor defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and 18 other candidates, polling 392, 284 votes against the PDP’s Iyiola Omisore’s 292, 742 votes.
The result was not acceptable to the PDP governorship candidate who headed to court to contest the result.
The tribunal established Mr Aregbesola’s victory in the judgement delivered at Osogbo, the capital of the state.
The chairman of the tribunal panel, Justice Elizabeth Ikpejime, ruled that there was no malpractices proven in all the 17 local governments where the elections were conducted.
Justice Ikpejime said the petitioner, the PDP, could not establish and prove in its oral and physical evidences that the election was ridden with irregularities, as it claimed.
The tribunal, after several hours of reading it’s judgement, declared Mr Aregbesola and the APC the true winner at the polls.
