The Business Club Ikeja (BCI) has declared that human resource training, knowledge and skills development are major factors for improving labour productivity in the Nigerian economy.
BCI’s President Mr. Suleiman Tella who made the declaration at a news conference organised by the Club in Lagos, also emphasized that only better employee motivation can be the most powerful factor for all workers in the nation’s economy to ensure major gains in output and sustainability of a high and quality production level.
He said: “Human resource training, knowledge and skills development are major factors for improving labour productivity as well as in gaining loyalty of employees to ensure major gains in output and sustainability of a high and quality production level”
According to Tella , it has been established in BCI’s development agenda that the greatest asset of a nation is its human resources in men and women, old and young who are capable of participating in productive activities.
“And so, it is now becoming clearer that for rapid economic growth and advancement to take place in government, industry and commerce, Nigeria requires the services of trained workers and professionals who possess technological skills to provide services of all sorts,” he said.
He ,however, emphasized that the poor infrastructure in transport, aviation, road, rail and waterways, energy, waste management, water supply, public health, telecommunications and housing remain the economic challenges to businesses in West African sub-region.
