Tension is mounting in Apapa/Iganmu Federal Constituency of Lagos State over the crisis rocking the nomination process of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The crisis reportedly climaxed on Friday with the chairman of the party in the constituency allegedly locking out one of the aspirants, Dr. Adesola Adedayo of the party secretariat and stopping his declaration for the ticket.
Adedayo, the immediate past chairman of Apapa/Iganmu local council development area (LCDA) and his supporters were said to have been denied entry, with the party chairman, Alhaji Morufu Gbadamosi Ojora allegedly going away with the keys.
Executive members in wards making up the council areas have fired a petition to the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, state party chairman, Dele Ajomale among others.
The petition signed by 30 executive members, reads in part, “ in a contest that requires a level-playing field for all aspirants and an unbiased officiating, Alhaji Ojora is using his privileged position to openly canvass to the LGAs and Ward executives of the party for the blanket endorsement of Hon. Adewale Babatunde for the House of Represenatives under the pretence that the party had given directive for automatic return of all legislators both at the state and National Assemblies.
“Today, all is not well with the Apapa/Iganmu chapter as Ojora is hell-bent on foisting his preferred candidate for the seat on electorates through the back door.
“More woorrisome is his penchant to drop Prince Olusi’s name whenever it seemed convenient to confer legitimacy on whatever he says, knowing full well that other exco members do not have the kind of access he enjoys with our Leader.
“In a deliberate bid to scuttle the ambition of our obviously more popular candidate, Hon. Adedayo, whose aspiration enjoys wider acceptance, he has refused to summons LGA party meeting to date ostensibly to deny him the forum to make his official declaration to the generality of party members”.
