Governor Kashim Shettima
The building of a 300-unit housing estate meant for teachers started in Borno State in 2013 was slowed down due to activities of Boko Haram, the state governor Kashim Shettima was told yesterday.
Vice President Namadi Sambo laid the foundation for the estate in February, 2013, but supply materials could not be delivered due to the Boko Haram crisis.
Dauda Buratai, the project supervisor, said this while conducting Shettima round on an assessment visit to the estate named Dr Shettima Ali Monguno Teachers Village located at Pompamari area of Maiduguri.
He said the project could have long been completed but for cut in supply of laterite mostly sourced from an area affected by insurgency activities outside the state capital.
Unlike other over 2,000 houses at near completion levels despite commencing at latter period, houses at the teachers village are being constructed with bricks as requested by Vice President Sambo during his inauguration with his reason being creation of more job opportunities and training of youths in bricks making and assembling in line with Governor Shettima’s vision.
The supervisor said despite the cut in supplies 131 units of two bedroom flats have been fully completed and ready for commissioning while 108 were at completion levels and others stalled due the problem he enumerated.
Governor Shettima expressed happiness with level of work at one of the legacy gardens along the airport road which comprises 50 units of three -story buildings to provide 300 luxurious apartments for citizens by government.
Shettima visited other project sites including the G.S.M Village which was under construction.
