A son of Nigeria’s former Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa and a member of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, Abduljhalil Tafawa-Balewa has debunked news reports saying he has indicated his intention of not picking the presidential ticket of the party.
In an interview with Channels Television, Mr Tafawa-Balewa refuted the reports, saying he has not given up his ambition of becoming president and that he had already purchased the PDP presidential nomination form.
“I intend to run for the presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the PDP is supposed to be the largest party in Africa, a party that will teach others what to do in the country, Africa and other parts of the world.”
“We cannot be called a third world country and behave the same way all the time, I am glad that there are some people that want to change the system,” he added.
The PDP had asked aspirants for the presidential ticket to collect the nomination forms, against its earlier stand of having only President Goodluck Jonathan as a sole presidential aspirant.
Meanwhile, President Jonathan, on Tuesday, declared his intention to run for the second term in office on the platform of the PDP.
