Blågult handler felt her side did enough to warrant taking all three points against the Super Falcons but assured that they would learn from their mistakes in their next game
Coach Pia Sundhage is unhappy that her side threw up three goals in Monday’s 3-3 draw against Nigeria Women in Group D’s opening game at the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup.
A commanding second half display by the Falcons saw them snatch a point against Sweden at the Winnipeg Stadium, Winnipeg.
Goals from Asisat Oshoala, Ngozi Okobi and Francisca Ordega were all Edwin Okon’s ladies needed to fight back having gone down by two goals in the first half.
“We’re not happy that we gave up three goals, however, at the end of the day we got one point and there are good things to bring to the next game,” Sundhage told Fifa.com.
“The game plan was different than what you saw. Again, we got one point and next time, when we play the States, I hope we will follow the game plan.”
On the other hand, Edwin Okon feels relieved with the result because his team came into the game as massive underdogs.
“I feel OK after our first match. They expected to win, and at the end of the day we got a draw,” said Okon.
“Prayer is a key for the Nigerian team. We praise God. That is the key. I thought in the first half we were the stronger team.”
Nigeria face Australia in their next game on June 12 while the Sweden will be eyeing their first win of the competition against former Champions, the United States of America. Goal
