Nigeria and South Africa have another opportunity to settle scores over the football pitch as the two countries match up in a friendly on March 29.
Nigeria drew 2-2 with South Africa in Abuja National Stadium when Nigeria needed a win to advance to the African Cup of Nations tournament that held in Equitorial Guinea in January.
President of the South Africa Football Association (SAFA), Danny Jordan, has confirmed a friendly match between his country and Super Eagles.
Jordan, while confirming the match on Friday, announced that the match will hold on March 29.
The friendly is aimed at strengthening relations between the two nations. “We are happy that Nigeria has accepted the invitation to play our national team. These are two key nations in African football and can lead the way for the improvement of football on this continent,” said Jordaan. SAFA also confirmed the venue as the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. Coach Mashaba was unconcerned about facing Nigeria again, saying: “The best will always play the best, it doesn’t matter how many times.” Furthermore, SAFA disclosed that the Amajimbos would play Mali on the same date and at the same venue ahead of Bafana-Bafana’s encounter against the Super Eagles. Matches are scheduled to begin at 2pm with Amajimbos taking on Mali and later at 5pm South Africa playing Nigeria.
