To avoid further diplomatic row with Nigeria, the South African government has declared that it will return the $15m seized by her agencies meant for arms purchase to combat Boko Haram.
The South African government said that this decision was taken to avoid further conflict with Nigeria on the issue.
The. South African government made this known through its High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr L.L Mnguni in an interview with African Independent Television, AIT.
He said: “We shall return the money, now that we know it belongs to the Nigerian government”.
He added that the money will be returned after the processes are concluded. He said that Nigerian and South African government have started negotiation on the issue.
He denied allegations that South African was blocking Nigeria’s purchase of weapons to maintain security and tackle Boko Haram.
He said going forward, South Africa will continue to sell weapons to Nigeria. He said such sale of weapons took place in the past.
South African government clarification has put paid to APC wild allegations on the transactions.
APC and her civil society associates have been casting aspersions on Nigeria, ignoring all explanations.
