Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ll
Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ll has called on management of the Hassan Ibrahim Gwarzo Secondary School to produce those that sexually assaulted some male students about a month ago, or face the law.
Sanusi, who spoke when he received wives of police officers, said management of the school must produce the people that abused the students.
“If the management of the school fails to produce perpetrators of the act, then they would bear the punishment,” he said.
The emir said the matter could not be swept under the carpet, saying something must be done to serve as deterrent to others.
It would be recalled that when the issue was reported, government directed the closure of the school and set up an investigative panel to investigate the matter. The committee was supposed to submit its report within two weeks but it asked for an additional week. Our correspondent reports that findings of the committee have not been made public, though the one week extension has lapsed.
Earlier, Chairperson of Police Officers Wives Association of Nigeria, Hajiya Saliha Muhammad Musa Katsina, said the delegation was at the palace to seek the emir’s advice.
Saliha, who is the wife of Kano State Commissioner of Police, said the association was worried about the increasing rate of child rape in the state.
“The menace of child rape and drug abuse among minors in Kano State is disturbing. The association has embarked on serious campaign against the problem. We are at your palace to seek for your advice on how best to go about this crusade. We want all stakeholders to partner the association so that we can achieve the desired objectives,” she said.
