Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Friday held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
TV360 reports that Saraki arrived Obasanjo’s residence around 9.20a.m, in company of a former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senators Ben Bruce, Andy Uba, among others.
The group then proceeded into the inner chamber of former President’s home.
It is not clear why the Senate President and his entourage are visiting the former President, but analysts believe that it might not be unconnected with schemings to smoothen the ways for Saraki in the Southwest region.
Although Tinubu has firm grip on the politicians of All Progressives Congres persuasion JN the state, Obasanjo still enjoys a good measure of respect in the Southwest that support will be priceless for Saraki.
Saraki was elected as Nigeria’s Senate president unopposed following a controversial manner some analysts have described as ‘a coup’.
His emergence sparked crisis in the ruling APC, which backed his main challenger, Ahmed Lawan, for the position.
Although the party claimed it has accepted Saraki’s leadership of the Senate, attempts at full reconciliation are still afoot and uneasy calm remains within the party’s fold.
