Rivers State PDP Governorship Candidate, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that Rivers State cannot afford another era of disconnect from the Federal Government, saying the outgoing government in the state has led the state into gross under-development because of the unnecessary acrimony between the outgoing governor and the Presidency.
Addressing traditional chiefs and titled citizens at Minimah town in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area at the weekend, Barrister Wike urged the chiefs and high chiefs to work relentlessly to ensure a victory for President Goodluck Jonathan, himself as the Rivers PDP Governorship Candidate and all the PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections.
He said: “We now see the danger in an era of disconnect between the Rivers State Government and the Presidency. Since the outgoing governor led us into this unfortunate disconnect, we have suffered massive dose of under-development.
“We cannot afford another era of disconnect. Every chief, traditional ruler and youth leader should work round the clock to ensure that Jonathan wins, that I win and that all PDP candidates win. We have a responsibility to return Rivers State to the path of development. Our people are tired of this era of excuses, false propaganda and the relegation of Rivers State amongst the comity of states”.
The former Minister of State for Education said no matter the level of false stories being peddled by the opposition, President Jonathan will be re-elected on February 14, 2015.
To the people of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Barrister Wike urged them to support President Jonathan who remembered them by appointing their son as the Chief of Army Staff of the country.
He said that the quest to reclaim Rivers State from the clutches of a failed administration and her associates is a united project that has attracted prominent Rivers State indigenes from all the communities of the state.
“The movement to elect a PDP government in Rivers State is a project for all Rivers State people. That is why from all ethnic groups, prominent indigenes are working on the PDP project to bring back the glory days in Rivers State. We are not interested in a student union government as the outgoing state governor is negatively plotting. That plot has been defeated”, Wike said.
Spokesman of the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area Traditional chiefs and titled citizens, Alabo Bukpo said that the leaders of the area resolved to support Wike because he has worked hard to reinvent PDP in Rivers State and enhance the chances of a Jonathan victory in the state.
He said though the APC nominated an Opobo/Nkoro son, the leaders and people of the area are supporting Wike because of his pedigree and the belief that he would attract development after the election.
Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike was accompanied to Opobo/Nkoro by his running mate, Dr Ipalibo Banigo, PDP Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, Minister of Sports, Dr Tammy Danagogo, Rivers State PDP Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah, Senate Committee Chairman on Defence, Senator George Sekibo and former Rivers State Information Commissioner, Mr Emma Okah.
