Violence is strongly rearing its ugly in the political space in Rivers State.
The Rivers State Police Command said it had received a report of an attack on the All Progressives Congress office at Ngor, Andoni Local Government Area early on Friday.
This is coming barely 24 hours after the convoy of People’s Democratic (PDP) candidate, Nyesom Wike’s convoy was attacked by unknown gunmen.
Ahmad Muhammad, a DSP and public relations officer of the command, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Muhammad said: “We have received a report of the incident.
“Details are sketchy, but we have commenced investigation into the incident.”
Oromte Erefokuma, the Chairman of the APC in Andoni Local Government Area, said the party office was destroyed with dynamite in the early hours of Friday.
He said: “The APC office at Ngor was attacked by unknown persons in the early hours of Friday.
“Nobody was hurt, but the office was destroyed.”
Muhammad also said the police had commenced search for gunmen who attacked the campaign team of Nyesom Wike, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, at Abua town in Abua/Odual Local Government Area.
He said the gunmen opened fire on the campaign team on January 15 in the afternoon.
Muhammad said: “Policemen accompanying the team responded and chased away the gunmen.
“Nobody was hurt.
“No arrest was made and we have commenced serious manhunt for the perpetrators of the act.”
