A big part of being successful in soccer and any other sport is loving the game, living the game, breathing the game. But does one of the world’s best players no longer care for soccer?
Yaya Toure, Manchester City’s heart and soul, is reportedly getting a bit sick of soccer after years of criticism from the media. Now, he didn’t say anything about retiring or leaving the game for a bit, but he did explain in detail how it has impacted him.
Per The Sun, Toure was quoted in Le Equipe saying that the media is always out to get him.
Toure admits that criticism, which he feels isn’t warranted, has gotten to him, hurting his enjoyment of playing the game, whether it is questioning his form or leaving the club to play in the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast.
“I often feel that I’m unhappy. A lot,” Toure said.
“I’m coming off a season when Man City finished second in the Premier League, which is the most difficult in the world. I scored twelve goals, I also had to leave the club to join my national team who were playing the African Cup. I missed almost two months, and then I was criticized for not scoring as many goals as in the season before?
“I’ve suffered for years, and now I have decided to talk.”
Good for Toure, I guess, to fight back. But every big soccer player is going to have critics, and sometimes you have to not be sensitive and let it go, otherwise it can certainly bring you down. And it looks like Toure has let it get to him.
