Lagos – Some religious leaders in Lagos on Friday have commended the Federal Government initiative in signing a ceasefire with members of the Boko Haram sect.
In separate interviews the clerics said the agreement was a welcome development in the right direction.
Monsignor Gabriel Osu, the Director of Social Communication, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, commended the Federal Government for the initiative.
He said “the Federal Government should explain to the citizens who are they signing the ceasefire with, and if it means there won’t be bombings again.
“Its good but we should know the terms, at what expense, what it entails, the conditions attached, are they going to release the abducted girls?.
“These are the things we want to know.’’
Also, the Director, Muslims Right Concern, Alhaji Ishaq Akintola, said it was a very good move by the Federal Government if there was really a ceasefire.
“The Federal Government should capitalise on it, we want peace in Nigeria; if there is a ceasefire, our people in the northern part of the country will experience peace.
“Economic activities in those states will start again.
“We want to urge the Federal Government not to look at the ceasefire alone, but should look at how to attain utmost peace.’’ (NAN)
