Good news for the people of Enugu State and all adjourning states who use Akanu Ibiam International Airport as the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has assured them that the rehabilitation work at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport runway Enugu will be completed by August 30.
The airport, which is the only international airport in the Southeast and travelling hub for the adjourning states, has been closed for repairs for months as the repairs on the runway was being executed, causing hardship to businessmen and women in the region.
Sirika, on Tuesday during a working visit to ascertain the level of work at the international airport, said that the work on the project is currently at the last stage of pavement wearing.
According to him, the work is over 90 percent completes.
Perimeter fencing, roads, and air landing systems, the minister said, will all be ready to enable a 24-hour operation when it reopens again.
He commended the South-East Governors, particularly the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for their efforts and assistance in the job.
The airport was closed on August 24, 2019, for the rehabilitation of its runway and upgrade of other infrastructure to meet international standards.
Work on the airport was meant to completed in April, but COVID-19 pandemic contributed in slowing it down.
