Players of Enugu Rangers International on Monday abandoned training following the non-payment of their five months salaries and allowances by the state government.
The players reported to training amid protested and vowed to abandon subsequent training session until their salaries and other entitlements are paid up to date.
However, Rangers Media Officer, Foster Chime on Monday confirmed the development and revealed that the Enugu State Commissioner for Sport, Charles Ndukwe, has waded into the matter.
“The intervention of the Sports Commissioner has invariably raised hopes that the players will in matter of days heave sighs of relief.
“Well, the good thing is that management is talking to them to exercise some patience, because the State Commissioner for Sport, Charles Ndukwe, has waded into the matter. He promised to ensure the problem is resolved,” Chime said.
Also responding, the club’s Technical Consultant, Christian Chukwu (MON), who was in Abuja as at the time of filing this report, assured that everything humanly possible would be done to placate the players, adding that the team had bigger tasks ahead.
“We will ensure the players are taken care of, because there are crucial games for them to tackle. So, this should not be the time for issues like this,” Chukwu was quoted to have said.
The former Super Eagles coach concluded that, “The players have been giving their best to the club in spite of all odds and I think they have been very patriotic in their duty.”
It is no longer news that most states in the federation are unable to pay workers salaries due to dwindling revenue from the centre.
