A radio station by the name Radio Biafra has hit the airwaves in Rivers State.
Biafra was the name of the country formed by the people of eastern Nigeria, which sought unsuccessfully to secede from the rest of the country.
Their struggle to break away culminated in a 30-month civil war which claimed the lives of millions of people.
About 45 years after the war ended, many people from that part of the country still romanticise over the prospect of them being carved into a country of their own.
‘Radio Biafra,’ operates from an unknown location with the frequency of 88.0 FM.
According to Dailypost, the radio station has only one anchor called the Director, who refers to the listeners as the Indigenous People of Biafra.
The anchor in his broadcasts often castigates both the current administration and the incoming one. He also castigates the Northern and Western Nigeria for living fat on the resources of the Biafran people.
Prominent persons like Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Oba Akiolu of Lagos State have also been lambasted during live broadcasts.
The Director in one of his sessions attacked Okonjo-Iweala for what he described as, ‘economic lies.’ He rubbished the minister’s comments that President Goodluck Jonathan, was leaving a solid economy behind, accusing her of telling lies to promote the Jonathan-led administration.
