Operators of Radio Biafra have rubbished Nigeria’s government for claiming that it has jammed the transmission signals of the station, which has been operating illegally from an unknown location.
They claimed that the station was very much in the air in the areas of it target coverage, adding such moves would not be effective since the state also transmit its signals through satellite and online.
Dr Yemi Folasade-Esan, the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Information, announced the successful jamming of the signals of from from the illegally operated station while speaking with State House correspondents after she had briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on the activities of the ministry.
The station is said to broadcast seditious, irrendists materials highlighting what it perceives as the horrendous wrongs against the people of the East.
According to Folasade-Esan, “We also gave a report on (Radio Biafra) that because right now the signals from Radio Biafra have been jammed. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has successfully jammed that.
The NBC is also working with security operatives to get those that are behind that radio because it is an illegal radio.
“It is not licensed by anybody to be on Nigeria’s airwaves,” she said.
But in a swift response, Radio Biafra wrote on Twitter that the NBC lied. “NBC lied to their master. Radio Biafra is live in BiafraLand. They cannot even ban our local station, do they even know we also transmit via satellite and online as well.”
