Chelsea went nearly an hour before scoring against Aston Villa on Sunday.
Then, the Blues scored two goals in 1:54 to take a 2-1 lead at Villa Park, thanks in no small part to Christian Pulisic, Chelsea’s star American attacker.
Chelsea trailed 1-0 after a first half in which they dominated possession but lacked quality and finishing in the attacking third of the pitch. That changed in the second half, five minutes after Pulisic came on for the first time during the restarted Premier League season.
The United States Men’s National Team star’s back-post finish equalized for Chelsea in the 60th minute, putting him in some pretty rare company in the process.
Chelsea’s next chance came fewer than two minutes later, and Olivier Giroud’s deflected left-footed shot gave Chelsea a 2-1 advantage.
Pulisic will face stiff competition for minutes this season and beyond, considering he began Sunday’s match on the bench and that Chelsea’s bringing in Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech next season.
With impactful performances like Sunday’s, Pulsic’s pursuit of playing time could very well take care of itself.
