Prof. Samuel Garba of Federal University of Technology, Minna, will on Thursday receive the Outstanding Medical Research Prize 2015. The International Institute for Training, Research and Economic Development (IITRED), announced this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday.
The statement by Dr Sani Dawop, IITRED’s President, explained that Garba’s entry on “Development and Production of Typhoid Fever Vaccine’’ was adjudged best in the category of Outstanding Medical Researches.
It said that the prize would be given at 3rd Distinguished Research Seminar and IITRED Research Prize Awards Dinner at Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja.
The statement said the seminar with the theme “Research Commercialisation: From Idea to a Market Product’’, would be declared open by Prof. Sonni Tyoden, the Deputy Governor of Plateau State.
“Dr Olatunji Ololade of the University of Lagos and Prof. John Aguiyi of the University of Jos also won in the medical category.
“Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, Energy Commission of Nigeria, High Commission of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion will also be honoured with awards.’’
According to the statement, the event will be chaired by Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology.
