A Mexican port has denied entry to a US cruise ship which has a passenger under quarantine because of ebola fears, a day after Belize refused to allow US officials to evacuate the woman.
The Obama administration said the unidentified lab supervisor had handled specimens 19 days ago from the first patient diagnosed with ebola in the US. The disease’s incubation period is up to 21 days.
The Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital worker did not have direct contact with now deceased Liberian Thomas Eric Duncan and was showing no symptoms of the disease, said the State Department.
The Carnival Magic did not receive clearance to dock in Cozumel, Mexico, on Friday.
A day earlier Belize allowed the ship to dock and the other passengers to disembark, but would not allow the woman under quarantine off the vessel.
