Officers of the Anambra State Special Anti Cultism Squad (SPAC) on Tuesday stormed a burial ceremony at Umuota Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State following a tip-off that Black Axe cult members were burying one of their own.
The deceased member, Christian Kenechukwu Onugha, alias Kembeliwa, was said to been allegedly killed during a bloody clash with a rival group in December 2018.
A resident of the area who spoke to News Express on condition of anonymity said that the cultists who were openly displaying their weapons of warfare in respect to their fallen member took to their heels when they sited SPAC officers.
However, one of them identified as Chikaodili Nwanba was unable to escape as he was nabbed while other members bolted away.
The source said: “SPACS on a tip-off that Black Axe cultists at Umuota were about to perform the burial rites of their dead member, Christian Kenechukwu Onugha, alias Kembeliwa, allegedly killed during a bloody clash with a rival group in December 2018.
“The cultists on seeing them ran away and they arrested one of them with locally made pistol.
“The funeral immediately came to a halt as the cultists who were displaying their weapons of war fled the scene.”
The source said that the bereaved family with other mourners after the chaos peacefully buried the deceased adding that the mourners all disappeared immediately the burial was done for fear of the unknown.
The SPACS Commander, Mr. Christopher Bassey (CSP), while confirming the incident, warned parents to ensure they monitor their children’s friends in order to curtail their criminal activities.
