Delta State Police Command has rescued the mother of the state Commissioner, Directorate of Special Infrastructure, Mama Ferife.
Her son, Patrick Ferife, a pharmacist, was former Commissioner for Land and Survey who was this week redeployed to the Directorate of Special Infrastructure.
She was rescued on Thursday evening at NDC Road, Ozoro, Isoko South Local Government Area from five gunmen who attempted to kidnap her.
According to Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Celestina Kalu (DSP), the Ozoro Divisional Police Officer (DPO) received a distress call that Mama Ferife was being kidnapped and when it failed, the hoodlums snatched a Toyota Camry car with Registration number BG 75 KWL belonging to one Barrister Festus.
She revealed that the patrol team was dispatched immediately and that the kidnappers on sighting the patrol team, engaged them in a gun battle.
”One of the gang members was fatally wounded while the other four escaped, abandoning the vehicle,’’ Kalu stated.
According to her, items recovered from the men include one double barrel gun, two live cartridges and a Toyota Camry car, promising that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing gang members.
