The Police Command in Nasarawa state said it had deployed 600 personnel for the House of Representatives re-run election for Nasarawa/Toto Constituency holding on Wednesday.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Lawal Shehu, disclosed this in Lafia on Tuesday.
Shehu said that the election would hold in 51 polling units where results were cancelled in the first re-run held on Saturday.
The result of the exercise in the constituency was cancelled following reported cases of over-balloting.
“We are deploying so many policemen to prevent electoral violence and ensure smooth conduct of the polls,” he said.
Shehu warned security personnel against accompanying politicians to polling units.
He declared that the command would not hesitate to deal with any officer found at a polling unit, where he was not officially assigned to for election duty.
He assured voters of adequate security, and called on them to be orderly during the conduct of the polls to avoid clashing with security officials.
He however, appealed to politicians to play the game by its rule to ensure a peaceful exercise. There have been displeasure by Nigerians at the current leadership INEC over the spate of in-conclusive elections in recent times in the country.
Expectations are high that the electoral umpires will get it right this time around.
