Leader of the House of Representatives, Honourable Mulikat Akande Adeola, in this interview with some newsmen in Lagos, speaks on the women participation in politics and other issues. BOLA BADMUS brings these excerpts:
PDP has endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the presidency in 2015. How come your party took such a decision to have a sole candidate for the office?
The decision is a novel idea, because if you look at a country like the United States of America, when President Barrack Obama was going for a second term, I am sure you didn’t see any particular aspirant come forward to struggle with him. Once you believe in a candidature or in the ability of the sitting president, it is not unusual to endorse the president, at least for primaries. You know he is going to contest with the candidates of other political parties. So, the work we still need to do as a party would have been reduced rather than having internal problems. Don’t forget, the president was endorsed by the NEC, the highest body of our party. In the NEC, we have people from the Presidency, the Legislature, PDP’s Board of Trustees; we have representatives from all the PDP organs in the NEC. They have taken the decision and it is final.
