The Peoples Democratic Party has made clear its intention to win all council positions up for election at the Federal Capital Territory Abuja come April 9, 2016.
The FCT being the capital city is where President Muhammadu Buhari of All Progressive Congress has his office. Abuja by winning all the area council polls this Saturday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed that date for the conduct elections into the area councils and wards. .
The chairman of Abuja South East PDP, Barrister Chinelo Nnadi, at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, said that would leave no stones un-turned in its quest to vanquish the ruling party in the upcoming contest.
He enjoined all Igbos resident within the territory to ensure they cast their votes for all the candidates of the PDP since Abuja is traditionally PDP.
Nnadi specifically urged all Nigerians in the FCT to disregard any contrary statement from anybody with regards to voting the PDP in the polls.
“In the meetings we have had, all of us have decided to vote for the PDP. All our chiefs met and they have agreed to vote for the PDP. PDP is Igbo and Igbo is PDP,” she said.
She said it was not true that Igbos in Abuja do not have voter’s cards, insisting that as residents of the city, their entire life revolve around Abuja.
“We live and work here. We have our PVCs and also have the right to vote here and that is exactly what we are going to do,” she said.
The group’s vice chairman, Henry Ugbaja also affirmed the resolve.
According to him, the Abuja councils need purposeful leadership to give the people good governance.
He said it was regrettable that for the past months, the six area council secretariats in FCT have been under lock and key because salaries have not been paid.
“There are greater reasons to vote PDP, we have young and vibrant candidates who will take over in these area councils. If Mr President or the FCT minister is not comfortable with PDP hosting them in Abuja, they should relocate to an APC state. Abuja is traditionally PDP and we are proud of that,” Ugbaja said.
