The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State has forwarded the name of its secretary, Barrister Tahir Shehu, to Governor Bala Ngilari for appointment as deputy governor.
Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Jingi Rufai, announced this to journalists in Yola yesterday.
“Based on instruction from the governor that the party should try as much as possible to nominate a deputy for him, the State Working Committee has forwarded the name of Tahir Shehu to him subject to confirmation by the House of Assembly,” he said.
Asked whether it is the only name sent to the governor, Jingi said two persons were nominated but refused to mention the second name.
Ngilari’s spokesman, Maxwell Duku, said he was yet to be informed about the development.
Several names have been proposed by different interest groups in Yola and Abuja before the party was finally asked to present a competent person.
A source close to the PDP said the party executives unanimously agreed to nominate Shehu as deputy governor due to his loyalty and contributions to the party since 1999.
The news came as more candidates declared interest in the office with Dahiru Hammandikko, the former state coordinator for the PDP National chairman, Ahmad Muazu during PDP chairmanship campaign being the latest entrant. Others eyeing the office include Awwal Tukur, Sani Ribadu, Moddibo Tukur, Ahmad Hamman and Lawan Abubakar Hamman.
