Abba Bello Mohamed, son of former PDP national chairman, Dr Haliru Bello, has emerged as national delegate to represent Birnin Kebbi local government area at the forth-coming national convention of the party where President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to be declared PDP’s sole candidate in the 2015 presidential election.
Abba Bello, a UK-trained lawyer, emerged among two other contestants, who participated last weekend in the PDP, Birnin Kebbi local government council congress, conducted by a five-member electoral committee headed by Hon Humphrey Abba, former minister of Interior with an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in attendance.
Other members of the committee were: Dr Ado Yusuf, Alh Musa Abdullahi, Mr Chris Okike and Terhymba Gyada (Secretary). The exercise was widely-adjudged peaceful and orderly.
Bello’s involvement in the party’s activities dates back to his university days in the United Kingdom where, as a member of PDP, UK chapter, he mobilised Nigerian students and youth organisations in the Diaspora to support the party.
As a students union activist at the University of Essex, Colchester, he was variously elected into the university’s student union international committee, executive committee and as a students union councillor.
