Nigeria international defender, Kenneth Omeruo has passed a late fitness test and is now available for selection for the Super Eagles’ 2015 Africa Nations’ Cup qualifier against South Africa in Uyo on Wednesday.
Omeruo missed out on Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Congo at the Stade Municipal, Pointe-Noire last Saturday because of a groin injury but he is now fully recovered for the clash.
The Chelsea player currently on loan at English championship club, Middlesbrough has now exclusively told supersport.com that he’s raring to go against Bafana Bafana on Wednesday.
“The coach (Stephen Keshi) spoke with me extensively before our last game against Congo and after consulting with the Doctor, we both agreed that it was best I did not play (last Saturday).
“It wouldn’t have made any sense to start the game and then pull up midway. It would have put the team in trouble,” he told supersport.com.
Omeruo completed the team’s two training sessions on Monday and Tuesday and has not put himself firmly in the frame for selection on Wednesday.
“I trained on Monday and Tuesday with the rest of the squad. I have also been doing some private work in the gym.
‘Coach Keshi and I even joked about it when he saw how hard I was working. He laughed and told me to take it easy so I don’t aggravate the injury but I am perfect now.
“It’s been a while since I felt this fit and hopefully, I am selected to play,” he said.

The Super Eagles will be missing, Godfrey Oboabona (suspension) and Hope Akpan (injury) but Omeruo believes they can cope without the duo.
“Playing the game against South Africa without those two players does not make us weak at the back.
“We will win the game whether or not they play because we are strong and very organized,” he said.
Omeruo who has represented Nigeria at U17 and U20 levels has been capped 17 times for the senior side.
