A Female Youth group, Global Community Peace Network Initiative, has nominated Governor Rochas Anayo Okorocha of Imo State and Governor Aliyu Wamako of Sokoto State as most outstanding governors of 2014.
The national coordinator of the body, Miss Queen Agbonma Ehirim, said the award, which will be given to the governors at its forthcoming Nigeria Female Youth summit in Abuja is in recognition of their performance, especially on gender development.
“The award is in line with our tradition of recognising deserving individuals and encouraging hard work, especially on girl child development and active women empowerment campaigns,” she added.
She said the group, which specialises in the promotion of female participation in public and private sector, is not trying to score political point, but out to recognise performance on youth and women development.
Her words: “We are one of Africa’s largest youth-based non-governmental organisations. Annually, we recognise most outstanding office holders with global role model award and women in power award, which recognises and celebrates women in politics, government and corporate individuals with impeccable track record.
“Those nominated in our assessment have performed well in education, infrastructure development, agriculture, employment creation, health, girl child initiative and security.”
She said the organisation would give 100 female youths from the awardees’ states free skill acquisition training and present start-up grants to 50 female entrepreneurs while the awardees will become the special guest at the opening of its 2014 summit and patron of the organisation in Nigeria.
