National president of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Gary Enwo-Igariwey
The re-election aspiration of President Goodluck Jonathan is about to get a shot in the arm in the form of endorsement by apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
“Ohanaeze will endorse Jonathan, likely today in Enugu,” an inside source said on Tuesday.
Investigations showed that a meeting of Ohanaeze leaders is scheduled to hold at the national secretariat of the organisation in Enugu and that endorsement of a candidate for the February 14 presidential election is one of the items on the agenda.
Jonathan, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was massively voted for by Ndigbo in 2011 but there have been complaints that he has not done enough to deserve such support this time around.
Jonathan’s main challenger, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had earlier written to seek an audience with the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. It could not be confirmed if the request had been granted as at the time of this report
