Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has finally resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party, the party that handed him the platform through which became President of the country and ruled for eight years.
For more than two years on, Obasanjo has constituted an albatross to the ruling party as he has relentlessly attacked The party’s ruling president, on counts that appeared vicious most of the times.
He has severally accused President Goodluck Jonathan of every imaginable things, including training snipers to use against political enemies.
Unfortunately, there were several politically motivated killings at his time as president, including that of the highly reverred Justice Minister Chief Bola Ige, Harry Marshal, Funsho Williams and a lot more.
Jonathan administration on the other hand has been devoid of any political killings linked directly or indirectly to the presidency.
Obasanjo, it was learnt, resigned before members of the PDP in his words.
And to demonstrate his frustrations and great anger, he tore his Peoples Democratic Party membership card , saying he is no more a politician.
The former President, who finally dumped the ruling party in the presence of PDP members from ward 11 in Abeokuta North local government, said he would prefer to be an elderstateman.
He had on Sunday attacked Jonathan for the shifting of the polls, and accused him of trying to play a script like the disagraced Ivorien President Gbagbo.
President Jonathan for the first time replied his tirade, which has become perennial. Jonathan explained that the grouse of the former president against him was that he refused to hand him his presidency to run in proxy.
