BENIN CITY-THE senatorial ambition of the Chief of Staff to governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state, Mr Patrick Obahiagbon (Igodomigodo), received a great boost yesterday, when members of the State Students Association and leadership of the Initiative for Youth Awareness on Migration, Development and Reintegration, (IYAMIDR), backed his ambition.
This comes as women from Egor/Ikpoba Okhai Federal constituency of Edo state, yesterday purchased form for two time former chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Mr Crosby Eribo for the House of Representatives.
Eribo who was escorted to the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benin City by the women and his large supporters could not hold his tears when the women paid the N2million nomination form to the party.
However, President of the IYAMIDR, Comrade Omoruyi Kelvin, flanked by Comrade Solomon Okoduwa, at a press conference in Benin City said their decision to back Obahiagbon for the senate was informed by what they described as his robust representation when he was in the House of Representatives.
The group said “our resolution to back Obahiagbon is informed by his believe in the fight for the common man and his ability to maintain his position in the floor of the house where laws are made that affect the people”.
Meanwhile Mrs Josephine Eguakun, who spoke on behalf of the women for Eribo, said their decision to pay for the nomination form for the aspirant was to show appreciation for what Eribo achieved when he was chairman of Egor Local Government.
According to her, “when he was chairman of Egor he built our market for us and when fire gutted the market he rebuilt it. He made sure we were able to continue our business so as to train our children in school. He is someone who knows what to do at the right time. He is the people’s man, he does not discriminate. Whether you are from Igbo, Urhobo or any part of the nation does not make any difference to him.
“That is why the women decided to come together to contribute this money in bit, some donated N20,000, N50,000 to make up the N2million” she stated.
In his reaction, Eribo stated that it was a surprise to him as he had never seen such demonstration of love and trust before. “I contributed not one kobo towards the buying of the form hence I was overwhelmed with tears of joy. I think it is the love, the understanding, the togetherness and the fact that I have been with them for a long time. I heard that the form cost N2 million” he stated.
