Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has averted a clash between farmers and Fulani herders in Kiri Kasamma Local Government Area in Jigawa State, which could have resulted in blood bath.
The commandant of the corps in the state, Dr. Muhammad Gidado, disclosed this to journalists.
He said the visibly enraged farmers accused the pastoralists of colossal damage and destruction of their crops by the herds of 50 cattle while grazing in the farm lands under the control of 10 years old boy who was too weak to graze animals in a far flung fields.
He said that prompt intervention of the operatives of the Corps saved the situation through a dialogue where both parties agreed on the terms that the erring herdsmen pay them N115,000 compensation.
Gidado explained that one M,alam Gambo Yankoli collected
N100,000, and Alhaji Bako, N10,000, stressing that their harvests were eaten up by cattle.
The commandant during the mediation, through Peace and Conflicts Resolution Unit , directed the Fulani herdsmen to avoid night time grazing and herding by small children and also cautioned both parties to desist from taking law into their hands.
He also implored them to ensure peaceful co-existence for their socio-economic development.
In a related development , the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Sani ii, urged Fulani and famers in his domain to continue to live in peace with one another, saying that it was imperative to maintain the peaceful co-existence among them.
The Emir made the plea while rounding up sallah festivities at his palace.
