The Federal Government is yet to determine the date for reopening of universities and other institutions of learning in the country, the Secretary of the Government of the Federation and the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force On Covid-19, Boss Mustapha, has said.
In a press briefing on Monday, Mustapha said that universities and other institutions of learning would only be reopened when it is safe to do so.
According to the PTF Chairman, the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) commenced all over the country, like in other West African States, and the task force is happy to note the high level of compliance with the protocols for the reopening of exit classes.
“it is the light that we appreciate the call by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for the reopening of tertiary institutions.
“As a listening government, we wish to state that education is the topmost on the priority list and the reopening of our institutions remain critical, within set safety parameters,” he said.
There have been varied reports on the reopening of schools in the county with some claiming that the federal government had fixed September 7 reopening date for schools.
Some tertiary institutions are said to have even set a reopening programme for their students.
