Bida (Niger) – Hosts Federal Polytechnic Bida has won the first gold medal of this year’s Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) in the 5,000 metres female event.
Martina Essien won the gold medal.
In an interview, the athlete attributed her success to training and support from her school authorities.
In other events at the Games, Kwara Polytechnic Ilorin beat Abia Polytechnic 2-1 in the football category.
Hosts Federal Polytechnic Bida drew goalless with Sokoto State Polytechnic, while Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi beat Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta 4-1.
Other scores have Osun State Polytechnic Iree losing 0-2 to Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, and Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta drawing 1-1 with Kwara Polytechnic.
In basketball group stage matches, Auchi Polytechnic lost 28-34 to Federal Polytechnic Ede, while State Polytechnic Adamawa beat Kaduna Polytechnic 39-32 point.
Also, The Polytechnic Ibadan lost 26-32 to Laspotech.
In male volleyball, Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Zaria beat Polytechnic Oko 3-0, Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa lost 1-3 to Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti.
Federal Polytechnic Bida also beat Kaduna Polytechnic 3-1, while Federal Polytechnic Offa beat Yaba College of Technology 3-0.
In the female category of the volleyball event, Federal Polytechnic Nekede beat Sokoto Polytechnic 3-0, while Federal Polytechnic Offa beat Polytechnic Oko 3-0.
Also, Laspotech won 3-0 against hosts Federal Polytechnic Bida, while Polytechnic Barkin Ladi beat Kaduna Polytechnic 3-0.(NAN)
Remi Tinubu picks APC ticket for Lagos Central Senatorial District
Lagos – Sen. Oluremi Tinubu on Monday picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Lagos Central Senatorial District at the party’s primary election.
Tinubu is presently representing the senatorial district at the senate.
Mr Kehinde Akinola, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, who declared the winner, said that a total of 2,428 votes were cast during the election, out of which 2,379 were valid.
Akinola said that Tinubu had 2,354 votes while her opponent, Mr Odutola Adetokunbo, had 25 votes.
He said that there were 49 invalid votes.
Addressing journalists, Tinubu commended the delegates and the people of the constituency for the confidence they had in her.
She described the victory as a “debt” that would be paid back through quality representation at the senate.
Adetokunbo and his agents were not at the venue when the result was announced.
The election started by at about 1:00p.m and ended at about 5:40p.m. at the Landmark Centre, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island.(NAN)
