Some football stakeholders on Sunday commended the U-23 Nigeria National team over its 2-1 win against Zambia in Lusaka.
Taiwo Awoniyi’s brace earned Dream Team VI a 2-1 win over Zambia in Lusaka.
As a result, Nigeria advanced with a 2-1 aggregate to the 2015 All-Africa Games.
Paul Hamilton, a former super eagles player and coach congratulated them on “the exciting performance.
“Awoniyi is a very talented player and I am proud of his performance, although I was apprehensive of the match but I am relieved,” Hamilton said.
In the same vein, Bright Omokaro also a former Super Eagles player said he was impressed with the talented players in the U-23 team and hoped they win gold at the All African Games.
“I doff my hat to the calibre of players and for the fact that they redeemed their image in the midst of doubt. I am proud of them and I hope they win the All African Games,” Omokaro added.
In his reaction Joe Erico, a former goalkeeper of the Super Eagles, said the game was a great one and Awoniyi showed his ability to perform.
“It was a good game, never thought they would excel like this, I am particularly impressed with the performance of the young chap Awoniyi,” Erico stressed.
Tunde Disu also a former Super Eagle player said the outstanding performance from the U-23 team showed the abundance of grassroots players in the country. (NAN)
