This new Netflix rom-com is pulling at our heartstrings for all the right reasons.
Introducing Namaste Wahala, a must-watch Nigerian film. Although it originally premiered on the streaming service back in December 2020, it just recently hit Netflix’s list of most-watched movies.
Namaste Wahala (which loosely translates to Hello Trouble) focuses on the one percent in Lagos, following an interracial couple’s heartwarming journey. The story introduces viewers to an investment banker named Raj (Ruslaan Mumtaz) and a lawyer/social worker named Didi (Ini Dima-Okojie), who immediately hit it off despite their cultural differences.
The problem(s)? Didi’s father doesn’t approve of their relationship and wants his daughter to marry his Nigerian employee. Raj’s mom has a similar opinion, claiming she’s appalled by her son’s decisions. Can they find common ground in a world full of differences? Or will their opinionated families cause irreversible damage?
In addition to Mumtaz and Dima-Okojie, Namaste Wahala also stars Richard Mofe-Damijo, Joke Silva, Sujata Sehgal, Osas Ighodaro, Adaora Lumina, Imoh Eboh and Ibrahim Suleiman. The movie was written, directed and produced by Hamisha Daryani Ahuja, who also had a starring role. The screenplay was written by Diche Enuwa and Temitope Bolade-Akinbode.
Guess we’ll be adding Namaste Wahala to our streaming queue after To All the Boys: Always and Forever and Behind Her Eyes.
