Sequel to the attack on the convoy of the former speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly and member representing Gbako, Hon. Mohammed Alikali Mohammed by unknown people last Sunday, the Niger State government has warned politicians against any acts capable of disrupting the public peace.
The member’s convoy was attacked at Nuwanya village in Etsu-Audu ward of Gbako Local Government Area where he had gone for a naming ceremony of a child named after him by a villager.
The attack, was allegedly carried by his political adversaries within the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said to be against his 2015 aspiration.
Reacting to the development, the state government warned those seeking elective offices in the state to desist from engaging in divisive actions capable of breaching the peace of the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Communication and Strategy, Danladi Ndayebo warned that “government would not tolerate the attitude of aspirants who are in the habit of sponsoring violence with the objective of intimidating their opponents”.
Ndayebo said Sunday’s outbreak of violence in Nuwanya was unfortunate and, warning that government would not allow a breakdown of law and order in the state ahead of next year’s election.
According to him, anybody caught in any act capable of breaching the peace would be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land, advising politicians in the habit of sponsoring thugs and masterminding the activities of thugs in the state to desist from such act.
The commissioner said “any negative report about any politician or his supporters will not be treated lightly”.
