Supersport.com has report that the Nigeria Footbal Federation (NFF) has sought the services of German Christoph Daum for the national team Super Eagles.
Daum, 60, claims he has been approached by the Nigeria Football Federation to replace Stephen Keshi as the team of the national team.
He was a coach of Bayer Leverkusen. He told told a German website mobo.de that he rejected the offer last week.
It is not stated who in the NFF had made the contact, since the federation had been embroiled in crises since July.
The NFF is yet to renew Keshi’s contract when it expired after the Brazil 2014 World Cup in June and he is currently on a ‘game per game’ contract.
Daum previously managed German sides FC Cologne, VfL Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt, as well as Turkish outfit, Bursaspor, and is currently out of work.
Keshi guided the Eagles in their two 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo and South Africa. Nigeria lost 3-2 to Congo in Calabar on September 6 and battled to a goalless draw against South Africa in Cape Town four days later.
Though most Nigerians want Keshi retained as Super Eagles chief coach they would want him to improve in team selection and tactical discipline during matches.
He has been sharply criticised for leaving out some players Nigerians believe should be in the team while featuring some average talents.
In the last World Cup, Nigeria’s failure to conquer France was blamed largely to weak bench.
“I had offers last week to become coach of Nigeria,” mobo.de quoted Daum as saying.
The former Fenerbahce coach said he is not open to any coaching job until next season.
“By next year, I’ll take over a team,” Daum said.
