President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term bid has received a boost after the Ondo Joint Campus Committee Axis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has backed the second term bid of President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to a report in The Punch, announced their support of his candidacy ahead of next month’s Presidential polls, after its Tuesday meeting at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
The meeting, the report said, was attended by Student Union Governments (SUG) Presidents of tertiary institutions in the zone, Ondo JCC Chairman Odunayo Kowe, NANS Southwest Zone D Treasurer, and the Vice President NANS, (National Affairs) Timilehin Ayenuro.
According to the students, President Jonathan’s achievement in the education sector is the reason for their support of his second term bid.
They listed the establishment of 150 Almajiri modern schools in the North, establishment of 9 new federal universities, equipping of 51 Federal and State polytechnics with state-of-the-art laboratories, the restoration of Federal Government Scholarships and the release of N200 Billion Intervention Fund for the education sector.
It will be recalled that the national leadership of NANS on Thursday 8th of August 2014, endorsed Jonathan to run for a second term.
As reported by Vanguard, the President of NANS, Mr Yinka Gbadebo, made the open declaration when he led the National Executive members of the association on a courtesy visit to the First Lady, Dame Patience Faka Jonathan.
“We have unflinchingly determined to put all political detractors and evil geniuses to shame in 2015 by giving Mr President the singular and total support of all Nigerian students,” Gbadebo said.
The presidential election is scheduled for February 14.
