The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commenced measures aimed at educating stakeholders on good chemical management, to safeguard the health of the public and boost the nation’s economy.
In response to the case of My Pikin teething mixture, which killed about 84 babies due to lack of proper chemical management sometime ago, a new directorate, Chemical Evaluation and Research (EVR), has been created.
The EVR directorate, as a means of engaging the stakeholders, organised a one-day seminar for commercial warehouses and chemical handlers on best practices in chemical warehouse management.
Speaking at the seminar, Director-General of NAFDAC, Paul Orhii, noted that chemicals play a key role in many sectors of the world’s economy including agriculture, industry, housing, transport, textiles, the health sector and in the home.
