The National Agency for Food, Drug Admi-nistration and Control (NAFDAC) has impounded counterfeit goods worth over N3 million in Enugu, Mr John Okwori, a Deputy Director of the agency, has said.
Briefing newsmen yesterday in Enugu, Okwori said the goods were intercepted at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport due to the agency’s surveillance at the airport.
Okwori, who is in charge of operations at the airport, said the agency would make life difficult for miscreants who use airports as entry routes for contraband and substandard products.
The deputy director expressed regret that in spite of increased campaign to rid the country of such products, some unscrupulous elements have persisted in the business.
He said the agency has uncovered a new means adopted by perpetrators of the act in bringing their wares into the country.
“They now bring in empty packaging materials with foreign addresses such that if we don’t catch them, they go and fill them up, cork and sell to Nigerians as foreign product,” he said.
