Muslims begin Ramadan on Monday. The Sultan of Sokoto and head of the Muslim community in Nigeria, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, announced the commencement of the fasting period saying it will come to effect from Monday.

This was after the moon had been sighted in parts of Katsina and Zamfara State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The announcement in Nigeria is coming hours after Saudi Arabia announced the sighting of the moon and the commencement of fasting from Monday.
