First and foremost, let me use this medium to appeal
to the religious bigots and political extremists to stay clear of this piece. Back to the main issue, it’s widely
believed that Nigeria is the most religious country in
the world which is further accentuated by the number
of churches and mosques across the country.
But as. far as i’m concerned, Nigeria is the most Godless country in the globe. Mind you, I’m not an atheist.
Given the legendary anti-intellectualism on the part of
most Nigerians, when the issue of good governance
is being discussed , some ill-informed ones among the electorate tend to relate religious belief with
national issue. It’s only those that are trying to obfuscate the truth that would pontificate that the
current administration in Nigeria under PresidentGoodluck is not an outright failure. How could you
describe a situation whereby the President intentionally misuse federal agencies particularly the
security agencies under his jurisdiction to victimize
opposition leaders? How could you describe a president where under his administration the
insurgents are spreading and annexing territories with little or no resistance? Some misguided citizens
still blame governors because they are the chief security officers of their respective states.
The question now is; Are the governors the ones that
control the police and the army? How could you describe a president that under his administration, the
corruption level has metamorphosed?
How could you describe a president that under his administration the
rate of unemployment, poverty and squandering of
public funds have thrived?????
The bottom line is that good governance goes beyond
ethnicity and religious affiliated. Nigeria must
collectively vote for a credible candidate that has
leadership qualities next year at both the federal,
state and local government. Since we have been
having a Muslim/Christian or Christian/Muslim
leaders, what have we gained as masses? As far as
i’m concerned, if it’s a Christian/Christian or Muslim/
Muslim Ticket, I wouldn’t mind voting for any of them
once they have the leadership charisma.
In the final analysis, Nigeria is an heterogeneous. country and the Unity we have sustained since the
1914 amalgamation should be our strength. Let’s say
“NO” to Kleptocratic government and “YES” to good
leadership. I pray to God give Nigeria a selfless leader
that would be able to tackle the issues like Unemployment, inflation, poverty, corruption,
inadequate power supply, inadequate health care
delivery, lack of good roads, insurgency, kidnapping
e.t.c.
