Ahead of 2015 elections, Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, yesterday warned that the state can no longer afford to experiment with mediocre and people of questionable characters.
He charged the elites to champion the cause of educating members of the public on the need to ensure that people of proven track record are elected into political offices.
Speaking shortly after his investiture as the grand patron of the Ibadan Tennis Club held at the Club House, Iyanganku, Ibadan on Tuesday, the governor explained that for the state to improve, progressive-minded persons, who have the interest of the people at heart, must be at the helm of affairs.
According to him, the state can no longer afford to experiment with mediocre and people of questionable characters.
“Our administration has taken Oyo State to a level where we can no longer afford to hand the state over to mediocres and people of questionable characters. Our people must be educated on the need for them to ensure that only those who have their interests at heart are elected into political offices in 2015”, he said.
The governor described the present administration in the state as the change agent while also calling on members of the public to support his government to effect the necessary changes in the state and take it to its deserved destination.
In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Dr Lekan Are, commended the club for recognizing the contributions of Senator Abiola Ajimobi to the development of Oyo State which, he said, culminated in his investiture as the grand patron.”
He challenged the elites in the society to ensure that all eligible voters in the state are allowed to obtain permanent voters’ cards in order to exercise their civic rights during the forthcoming elections.
