The Federal Government has employed over 5,840 Village Health Workers across the country to assist the Debt Relief Gains for the attainment of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
The FG also invested N14.8 billion in 2012 and executed 15,000 “high impact MDGs related projects” covering water and sanitation, education, income generation, Agriculture and health sectors.
From the results of VHW scheme impact assessment carried out in Comprehensive Health Centre in Kunchi, Kano, the number of women who attended ante-natal sessions increased by 48 per cent from 623 to 927.
Similarly, the number of deliveries increased by 275 per cent from 24 to 90 while the number of children immunized significantly increased by 363 per cent from 211 to 977.
The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Millennium Development Goals, Dr. Precious Gbeneol, represented by the Director of Finance and Accounts in the MDGs Office, Mr. Ibikunle David, gave the figures in Abuja during a national training workshop for VHW scheme.
