The National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) is set to distribute 2.7 million treated mosquito nets across the 25 local government areas of Niger State.
The leader of the state support team of NMEP, Mrs. Adaeze Aidenagbon, disclosed this yesterday during a media orientation programme organised by Society for Family Health in Minna to acquaint the media of the knowledge of the consistent use of the Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLIN)
While saying that the LLIN reduces malaria incidence by 50 per cent, Aidenagbon, said that the (LLIN) campaign is aimed at replacing insecticide treated nets as part of proactive measures to reduce malaria prevalence in the country.
“The last distribution of mosquitoes nets in Niger State was in 2009, and there is need for replacement of these nets after a period of four years. The last distribution of these nets was one net card to two nets for an household, the system has changed now to one net card to one per 1.8 persons, that is maximum of four net cards per household,” she added.
