Magistrates in Anambra State on Wednesday urged Governor Willie Obiano to surrender funds accruing to the judiciary to them and ensure the improvement of their welfare.
They made the request at a workshop for magistrates in Awka, organized as part of 2014 Magistrates Association of Nigeria (M.A.N.) Anambra chapter week.
On behalf of the magistrates, the state Chairman, Mrs. Vivian Udedike, commended the governor for constructing new court halls, but noted that the judiciary in the state was still faced with the challenge of facilities like court recorders and law libraries, among others. Udedike also stressed the need to enhance the performance of magistrates through continuous legal education.
“We call on the state governor to relinquish the funds accruing to the judiciary to them and ensure improvement in the welfare of magistrates,” she said.
Udedike explained that the workshop was a forum for magistrates to brainstorm on issues, challenges and make meaningful contributions on the administration of justice system in the state.
